What happens if I need to make a claim?

If you need to make a claim, there’s a simple process to follow.

What’s the first step?

You must notify HSBC of your critical illness diagnosis within the time frame specified in your policy booklet. At HSBC Life, we’ll assign you a claims assessor to guide you through the claims journey. They often ask you where you’d like the money paid to in the event of a successful claim during the early stages of your conversation.

We’ll need medical evidence of the critical illness diagnosis. This could be an original letter from a doctor and confirmed test result, or other supporting medical evidence, this will depend on the circumstances of your claim.

In very rare circumstances we might need you to be examined by our own doctor in order to move forward with a claim.

What happens next?

In the majority of instances, once we have the evidence we need, your claim will be paid to a nominated bank account.

The instances we are unable to pay a claim are often due to signs, symptoms or diagnosis of an illness before the policy started which you did not mention during your application, or where your condition doesn’t meet the policy definition.

We’ll support you at every stage during this challenging time.

Listening to what you have to say about our services matters to us.
